17 hospitalized due to chemical leak in Cabuyao City


CABUYAO CITY, Laguna – Seventeen individuals were hospitalized due to an alleged chemical leak in a junk shop in Barangay Banay-banay, this city, on Tuesday afternoon, August 20.

Police said junk shop personnel were cleaning a four-foot cylinder tank when it suddenly released a yellowish-green chemical with a pungent smell.

Seventeen persons in the area showed symptoms of chemical inhalation.

The Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office said victims felt dizzy and had difficulty breathing and were taken to various hospitals.

The Bureau of Fire Protection here contained the chemical suspected to be a chlorine-based substance.

Victims are in stable condition and authorities are  investigating the incident.
