Warm weather with a chance of rain showers to persist across the Philippines

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Tuesday, Aug. 20 that warm weather with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms may prevail throughout the country in the next 24 hours.

PAGASA Weather Specialist Rhea Torres said the low pressure area located 1,030 kilometers east-northeast of extreme northern Luzon has a slim chance of intensifying into a tropical depression and is unlikely to affect any part of the country.

She said the southwest monsoon (habagat) and localized thunderstorms will be the dominant weather systems that may bring partly cloudy conditions along with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.

PAGASA said the habagat may affect Batanes and Babuyan Islands, and warned of possible flash floods or landslides due to moderate to heavy monsoon rains.

Similar conditions are expected in the rest of the country due to localized thunderstorms.

The public is also warned of possible flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms.
