‘Star Wars’ series ‘The Acolyte’ starring Lee Jung-jae, Amandla Stenberg canceled

The “Star Wars” series “The Acolyte” starring Lee Jung-jae and Amandla Stenberg has been canceled.

Citing sources, Deadline reported that Lucasfilm decided not to have a second season of “The Acolyte.”

“The news is not entirely surprising. The Acolyte did OK with critics, with 78% on Rotten Tomatoes, but divided Star Wars fans, which was reflected in its overall viewership,” Deadline reported.

"The Acolyte" (Disney+, Lucasfilm)

The first episode of “The Acolyte” achieved a record for the biggest premiere on Disney+ this year.

Disney+ announced that episode 1 of “The Acolyte” garnered 4.8 million views for a day of streaming.

It released the first two of the eight episodes on June 5 with new episodes released every week.

“The Acolyte” also stars Manny Jacinto, Dafne Keen, Charlie Barnett, Jodie Turner-Smith, Rebecca Henderson, Dean-Charles Chapman, Joonas Suotamo, and Carrie-Anne Moss.

“Corroborating Disney’s data, the series made its debut on Nielsen’s Top 10 originals chart in its premiere week at No. 7 (488 million minutes viewed), climbing to No. 6 the following week,” according to Deadline.

However, it added that “The Acolyte” failed to land in the top 10 in the third week “and staying off before returning at No. 10 after the release of the finale (335M minutes, believed to be the lowest for a Star Wars series finale).”

“Like fellow global streamers Netflix and Prime Video, Disney+ has a high viewership threshold for renewing high-end, big-budget series that cost well above $100M per season to make,” the report stated.
