Manila Mayor Lacuna-Pangan orders misting operations in schools to combat dengue surge

Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan has instructed the Manila Health Department (MHD) to implement misting operations across the city's 103 public elementary and high schools in anticipation of an increase in dengue cases due to the rainy season.
The mayor indicated that these misting and spraying initiatives will take place in all public schools from August 19 to September 20.
According to the mayor, MHD misting teams will visit schools after class hours and will also respond to requests from local communities. In this context, Lacuna-Pangan emphasized the importance of maintaining clean environments and urged barangay officials to assist the city government in promoting dengue awareness and educating residents on preventive measures.
Residents are encouraged to contribute by ensuring that streets remain clean and by actively seeking out and eliminating potential breeding sites for dengue-carrying mosquitoes.
The mayor also extended this appeal to employees of Manila City Hall, urging them to exemplify cleanliness and orderliness.
“Ang dengue ay sakit na maaring iwasan. Dala ito ng lamok pero naiiwasan kung pananatihing malinis ang paligid. Huwag mag-iwan ng imbak na tubig, linisin ang mga kanal dahil diyan namumugad ang mga lamok na may dalang dengue” (Dengue is a preventable disease. It is transmitted by mosquitoes, but can be avoided by keeping the environment clean. Do not leave standing water, and clean the drains, as these are breeding grounds for dengue-carrying mosquitoes)," she emphasized.
Reports submitted to the mayor indicate that the total number of probable and confirmed dengue cases in the city from July 21 to August 9 this year has reached 131.
She underscored that these figures should not increase, thanks to the proactive measures led by barangay leaders who are expected to guide their communities in maintaining cleanliness.
Additionally, she encouraged the youth to download the game app "Kapitan Lig."
