Man dies in gunbattle with cops in Cebu

CEBU CITY â€“ A man was gunned down by police serving an arrest warrant on Tuesday, August 20, in Barangay Jampang, Argao, Cebu.

The fatality was identified as Jay Rodel delos Reyes Comaling, whose brother Jonathan was the subject of the arrest warrant for illegal possession of firearms.

Police said Jonathan and his brother Joel were able to escape.

The three siblings allegedly fired shots when they sensed the presence of lawmen who arrived in the area past 5 a.m. to serve the arrest warrant against Jonathan.

During the exchange of gunfire, Jonathan and Joel fled.

Chasing policemen spotted Jay Rodel about to ride a motorcycle. Instead of surrendering, Jay Rodel allegedly fired at policemen, who returned fire and hit him twice in the body.

Jay Rodel was taken to a hospital where he was declared dead.

Police said they recovered a hand grenade and a KG9 submachine in the area.
