Showing up before the House quad-committee (quad-comm) is easy.
Zambales 1st district Rep. Jay Khonghun gave this assurance to his House colleague, Davao City 1st district Rep. Paolo "Pulong" Duterte; and lawyer Manases "Mans" Carpio on Tuesday, Aug. 20 amid their alleged involvement in big-time drug smuggling.
Speaking in a press conference, Khonghun also told Vice President Sara Duterte that the House quad-comm hearing wasn't meant to assail anyone in particular.
Pulong is the Vice President's brother, while Mans is her husband. The alleged drug links of the two were first raised by ex-Bureau of Customs (BOC) intelligence officer Jimmy Guban during a quad-comm hearing last Aug. 16.
"So mas maganda, harapin na lang ng kanyang kapatid, kasama namin sa Kongreso, madali namang humarap sa quad-committee si Kongresman Pulong, part siya ng Kongreso, madali siya pumunta sa hearing at i-defend yung ganyang sarili," said Khonghun, a House assistant majority leader.
(It would be better for her brother, who is our colleague in Congress, to just face the quad-committee, Congressman Pulong is a part of Congress, it's easy for him to attend the hearings and to defend himself.)
"At pari rin si Atty. Mans, asawa ni VP Sara, pwede rin humarap para linisin ang kanilang sarili," added the Zambales solon.
(Even Atty. Mans, VP Sara's husband, he can face the hearings to clear himself.)
"Sana maintindihan din ni VP Sara. Walang itinatago. Hindi naman siguro dapat silang matakot na humarap sa Kongreso," Khonghun said.
(I hope VP Sara can understand. If there’s to hide. Then they shouldn't be afraid to face Comgress.)
Khonghun told Vice President Duterte that the House of Representatives can't "go silent" just because members of her family are being implicated.
"Mali naman yata yan. So itong investigation na ito, walang tinitignan, walang sini-sino. Wala namang kaming gusto tamaan o tirahin," he said.
(I think that's wrong. In this investigation, there is no target, nobody is singled out. We don't want to assail anybody in particular.)
"Kaya lang kasi, hindi naman natin po pwedeng ipagsawalang bahala kasi ngayon lumalabas na kamag-anak ni VP Sara, kapatid niya at asawa niya, ang nai-implicate sa usapin sa droga," Khonghun said.
(But we can't ignore that VP Sara's relatives, her brother and spouse, are implicated in the drug issue.)
