Schools with postponed classes to open on August 5 — DepEd
The Department of Education (DepEd) announced on Friday, Aug. 2, that the target opening date for schools with postponed classes has been set for next week.

“The target school opening date is currently set for all schools,” Education Secretary Sonny Angara said in a mix of English and Filipino on the sidelines of the ceremonial Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signing between DepEd and Khan Academy Philippines Incorporated (Khan PH) at the Bulwagan ng Karunungan, DepEd Complex in Pasig City.

“We just hope it doesn't rain heavily because some of these schools are flooded,” he added.
When asked to assess the first week of classes for School Year (SY) 2024-2025, which opened on July 29, Angara described it as “okay” based on the schools he visited. “All were outstanding in their own way,” he added.
However, he noted that there are still over 600 schools that have yet to open due to Typhoon Carina and the southwest monsoon (habagat). Of these, he mentioned that “over 80 schools” are being used as evacuation centers.
“That’s our concern — how to help them open next week,” he said. “I hope next week is the latest,” he added.
As of August 1, DepEd data showed that 615 schools postponed their openings on July 29. These schools are located in four regions: the National Capital Region (NCR), Ilocos Region, Central Luzon, and Calabarzon.
DepEd also reported that 454,082 learners are affected: 241,334 in NCR; 16,890 in Region I; and 195,858 in Region III. Data from Region IV-A is not yet available, according to DepEd.
