Rep. Duterte aids Davao City fire victims

DAVAO CITY – Two-hundred thirty families in two barangays in this city affected by a fire received cash aid from Rep. Paolo Z. Duterte here on Thursday, August 1.

Duterte, represented by son Rigo, distributed assistance to 45 house owners, sharers, renters, and boarders in Barangay 28-C and 185 families in Barangay 2-A.

The recipients had earlier received food packs, bottled water, other essentials, and hot porridge from Rep. Duterte.

“We continuously coordinate with the communities to ensure all affected families and individuals receive the necessary assistance,” Rep. Duterte said in his official Facebook page.

Rigo assured victims that he would help them in the best way he could and encouraged them to prioritize their safety.

Twenty houses were gutted in Purok 4 in Barangay 28-C two months ago. A woman was injured and several families displaced. The Bureau of Fire Protection-11 said the 41-year-old victim, Crisanta Vargas, sustained second-degree burns in her right arm.

Fire investigators suspected that an overheated cellular phone charger was the cause of the fire. Damage to property was placed at P1.35 million.

More than 100 houses were razed in Barangay 2-A. Two children were killed and several families were displaced.

Authorities said the victims, two cousins aged 11 and 14-years-old, were trapped inside their house. Their bodies were found inside a bathroom.

Arson investigators suspect that an electrical short circuit was the cause. Damage to property was placed at P2.2 million.

The BFP-11 noted a 37 percent increase in fire incidents in the first half of 2024 here, resulting in P59 million in damages, compared to the same period last year.
