House Deputy Speaker Quezon 2nd district Rep. David "Jay-jay" Suarez has sided with Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief General Rommel Marbil amid the criticisms being hurled at the local police force by high-ranking government officials.
According to Suarez, Marbil should be given the opportunity to make the nectar changes at the PNP, especially since the latter is relatively new on the job.
"Let’s just allow the PNP to do the necessary reform agendas and reorganization," Suarez said in a recent press conference.
"Naiintindihan naman natin (We understand) that we have a new Chief PNP and I’m sure the task is very heavy on his shoulders to address the issues confronting the PNP," the House leader said of !Marbil.
Marbil, 55, took over the reins at Camp Crame only last April 1.
"So let’s give him a few months and opportunity to implement his reform program. So siguro bahagi din po ito sa kanyang pinatutupad na reporma para ayusin ang ating kapulisan.
(So maybe this is just part of the implementation of his reform program to fix the police force.)

"So pagbigyan natin ng pagkakataon at saka (So let's just give it an opportunity and) let’s trust the agencies of government," Suarez said.
The PNP was recently criticized by Vice President Sara Duterte and Senator Christopher "Bong" Go after they were both subjected to cutbacks on their respective security detail.
The either ìnsinuated or flat out said that the PNP's move was political in nature.
Marbil has responded to this by saying that the recall of pplice escorts--particularly that of the Vice President's--was done in the interest of maximizing the limited personnel of the PNP.
