The 26-year-old Filipina made great strides after reaching the 1000m mark and overtook her opponents to suddenly take second spot entering the final 500m stretch.
She mustered all of her might with another big push but Alejandra Alonso Alderete of Paraguay did enough to protect her lead and finish one second ahead of Delgaco with her time of 7:42.09 and claim the 19th spot overall.
Delgaco also placed the best Southeast Asian rower in the Games after reigning SEA games champion Thi Hue Pham finished in fifth in the race with a 7.47.84 time.
