Here's where to swap plastics, cans for vouchers

SM Cares recycles waste for rewards

Shoppers can swap their empty plastic bottles and soda cans for vouchers at SM Mall of Asia and SM Megamall, which will help redirect waste from landfills to recycling partners of the SM Cares Solid Waste Management Program.

To join, insert the bottle or can up to 1.5 liters at the vending machine and wait for the voucher to be released. One liter of the said trash deposited can be exchanged for 15 percent off at SM Skating or SM Bowling.

“With the continued degradation of our environment due to the global waste crisis, we need to ramp up our efforts to mitigate it,” said Engr. Liza Silerio, program director for environment and sustainability at SM. “We want to communicate to our mallgoers that properly disposing of even just one plastic bottle already makes a difference.”

Buyers can use one discount per transaction, which must be claimed within 60 days.

Some eco-friendly efforts by SM Cares include the Trash to Cash recycling market, coastal cleanups, the Green Film Festival quarterly screening, and internal paper recycling campaigns.
