Army chief rallies troops to ensure peaceful, orderly BARMM elections

Philippine Army (PA) Commanding General Lt. Gen. Roy M. Galido directed the Maguindanao-based 6th Infantry Division (6ID) to help secure the first ever parliament elections in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) next year.
The BARMM parliament polls will be the first regular election for the Bangsamoro Parliament, succeeding the interim Bangsamoro Transition Authority (BTA). Is is scheduled to take place on May 12, 2025 in various municipalities of Basilan, Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, and Cotabato City.
“The BARMM elections is the first regular election for the Bangsamoro region and is also slated to be held simultaneously with the 2025 Philippine general election,” Galido said on Friday, Aug. 2.
“All Army troops together with the Philippine National Police (PNP) will deploy assets and personnel to bolster the election contingency force around the country,” he added.
The Army chief encouraged the troops based in BARMM to practice the right of suffrage as he also expected them to keep the safe, orderly, and peaceful conduct of elections.
Galido also ordered the troops to adhere to the military’s non-partisan stance and to refrain from posting and joining posts that are politically motivated and controversial.
