2 NPA rebels killed in Sipalay City


BACOLOD CITY – Soldiers killed two New People’s Army rebels on Wednesday and Thursday in Barangay Camindangan, Sipalay City, Negros Occidental.

Lt. Col. J-jay Javines, spokesperson of the Army 3rd Infantry Division (ID), said the 15th Infantry Battalion (IB) was responding to information about the presence of communist rebels in Sitio Bactolon when they engaged remnants of the dismantled Southwest Front at 2:18 a.m. on Wednesday.

One NPA rebel was killed, 23-year-old Regie Fundador, from Candoni, Negros Occidental. Recovered from him were a .45 caliber pistol and a grenade.

Twelve hours later, another encounter erupted, in Sitio Cambugui-ot at 1:58 p.m. Another NPA rebel was killed, alias Xian. Recovered from him were a .45 caliber pistol and a hand grenade.

The 15th IB also clashed with remnants of SWF in Cauayan, Negros Occidental on July 29, killing one NPA rebel.
