DepEd shifts schools to blended learning
The Department of Education (DepEd) has directed affected schools to shift to blended learning after several local government units (LGUs) declared the suspension of face-to-face classes in their respective areas on Monday, Aug. 19, due to volcanic smog, or "vog."

DepEd reported that face-to-face classes were suspended in 25 areas in Batangas due to the smog from Taal Volcano. These areas include Balete, Balayan, Malvar, Laurel, San Jose, Mataas na Kahoy, Agoncillo, San Nicolas, Nasugbu, Lemery, Lian, Talisay, San Luis, Alitagtag, City of Calaca, San Pascual, Calatagan, Tuy, Cuenca, Sta. Teresita, Bauan, San Juan, Taal, Padre Garcia, and Ibaan.
In Cavite, in-person classes were suspended in 11 areas by their respective LGUs, including Silang, Mendez, Indang, Alfonso, GMA, Carmona, Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo, Amadeo, Maragondon, Naic, and Carmona.
Three areas in Laguna also suspended face-to-face classes: Calamba, Biñan, and Los Baños.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) has been monitoring degassing activity at Taal Volcano, which has resulted in hazy conditions in nearby communities due to volcanic smog.
Meanwhile, the Department of Health (DOH) has issued a health advisory urging the public to take precautionary measures to protect themselves from the risks of volcanic smog.
