Parañaque, Las Piñas LGUs suspend classes amid Taal volcanic smog

The city governments of Parañaque and Las Piñas suspended classes in all levels in both public and private schools due to the unhealthy air quality brought about by Taal volcano's volcanic smog on Monday, August 19.

Parañaque City Mayor Eric Olivarez ordered the immediate suspension of classes after the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHILVOCS-DOST) issued a warning of the high sulfur dioxide emission from the volcano that causes volcanic smog.

Olivarez said the air quality index reached to 132 which is considered as unhealthy based on the iqair.com.

He reminded residents to always wear facemasks especially in going out of their house.

In Las Piñas, Mayor Imelda Aguilar also issued an order for the immediate suspension of classes in all levels in public and schools due to the same reason.
