1 dead, 8 hurt as dump truck plummets into ravine

CEBU CITY – A man died and eight individuals were injured when a dump truck plunged into a ravine in Barangay Lamac, Pinamungajan town, Cebu province on Saturday afternoon, August 17.

Police identified the fatality as Jerome Pasignasigna, a resident of Barangay Kanghumaod, Dumanjug, Cebu.

Injured were Michael Bastida, truck driver, and Junrey Pasignasigna, Randy Pasignasigna, Juriden Pasignasigna, Ian James Verano, Jimmy Gasper, Josephine Bonbon, and Lance Balocos Canasa.

Police said that the truck’s brake malfunctioned while negotiating a downhill portion of the road.

Bastidaw lost control of the steering wheel and the truck plunged into a ravine. Police said Jerome was thrown off and pinned down by the truck.

Jerome was declared dead in a hospital where he and other injured passengers were taken.
