Through infographics released on Saturday, Aug. 17, the OVP showed that 87.98 percent of its 2025 proposed budget would go toward its programs and projects.
“The recommended budget for OVP reflects an 8.05 percent increase compared to the current year appropriation,” Vice President Sara Duterte’s office said, referring to its 2024 budget of P1.885 billion.
“This proposal, once approved, will translate to an increase of 12.39 percent in the number of target beneficiaries for the OVP's flagship programs,” it added.
Of the P2.037 proposed 2025 budget, 12.02 percent would go to the OVP’s personnel services, equipment, and vehicles.
“Layunin ng Office of the Vice President (OVP) na mas mapalakawak pa ang paghatid ng mga serbisyo mula sa iba’t ibang programa ng Tanggapan sa mas marami pang Pilipino (The Office of the Vice President aims to expand the delivery of services of the office’s various programs to more Filipinos),” the caption of its Facebook post said.
“Para sa Fiscal Year 2025, ang iminumungkahing pagtaas ng budget ay naglalayong makapaglingkod sa mas marami pang beneficiaries sa Luzon, Visayas, at Mindanao (For the Fiscal Year 2025, the proposed increase in budget aims to serve more beneficiaries in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao),” it added.
The OVP’s budget hearing was originally scheduled on Thursday, Aug. 15, before the House of Committee on Appropriations, but this was postponed to Aug. 27 “per OVP’s request.”
House Speaker Martin Romualdez wants the third-reading passage of the budget measure by end of September.
This year, the OVP said there was no proposed allocation for confidential and intelligence funds (CIFs) in its budget.
It can be recalled that the proposed CIFs under the OVP’s budget for 2024 was a point of contention and was exacerbated by the OVP’s spending of P125 million in December 2023.
Congress eventually scrapped the proposed CIFs under the OVP’s budget, which led to the criticisms of former president Rodrigo Duterte against members of the lower chamber.
