A 22-year old transgender landed in jail for allegedly threatening to release explicit videos of a man in retaliation for ending their relationship, the Anti-Cybercrime Group of the Philippine National Police (PNP-ACG) reported.
PNP-ACG director Brig. Gen. Ronnie Francis Cariaga said suspect “Jerica” was arrested in an entrapment operation based on the complaint of the victim.
“The victim stated that the suspect had been his partner for five months, during which they engaged in video calls and exchanged explicit photos and videos. After their relationship ended in July 2024, the suspect retaliated by sharing the intimate contents with the victim’s friends and relatives,” a report from the PNP-ACG read.
“The suspect then demanded a meet-up with the victim promising to delete the compromising materials only if he would agree to have sexual intercourse at a hotel,” it added.
Cariaga said they are now preparing charges for violation of Article 286 (Grave Coercion) of the Revised Penal Code and RA 9995 (Anti-Photo and Video Voyeurism Act of 2009), both in relation to Section 6 of RA 10175 (Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012), against the suspect.
“This incident again highlighted the importance of the need to prioritize one’s own protection. Avoid sending explicit photos or videos to anyone, as it could be exploited against you,” said Cariaga.
He also urged other victims of the same modus, or any online abuse, to report the incident immediately to the nearest PNP ACG office for prompt and appropriate action.
