SARIAYA, Quezon – Eight family members were killed and seven were injured in a collision between a delivery truck and passenger van in Barangay Santo Cristo here on Sunday morning, August 18.

Police Lt. Col. Carlo Caceres identified the fatalities as Eleodoro Bermudo, van driver; and passengers Danilo Dapadap, Villamor Concepcion, Jaime Bermudo, Francisco Bermudo, Sarah Joy Concepcion, MJ, a two-year-old girl, and Sarah Concepcion.
Injured were Crisanto Pascual, truck driver; and van passengers Ariel Caliro, Louis Aldea, Antero Vergara, Gilbert Bermudo, Jomar Caliro, and Anjo Caliro.
Investigation said Eleodoro fell asleep while driving the van back to Metro Manila from a wake in Balatan, Camarines Sur.
Eleodoro lost control of the vehicle and occupied the lane of the truck, resulting in a head-on collision.
Caceres said the victims were taken to hospitals here, Candelaria, and Lucena City.
