Jealous man threatens lover with gun, arrested in Manila


A 36-year-old man was arrested for threatening his lover with a gun out of jealousy in Malate, Manila on Thursday, August 15.

The Manila Police District (MPD) said the suspect, identified as Romuald Banal, 36, was arrested following a complaint filed by his lover on Thursday, August 15.

According to the victim, who is a therapist, she and the suspect had a heated argument inside a spa in Barangay 702, Malate.

Police said the suspect was jealous with one of the victim's customers.

During the argument, the victim said the suspect threatened her by drawing his gun and saying, "Walang makikinabang sa'yo! At huwag lang makita kita sa labas na may ibang kasama (No one else will benefit from you, and don’t let me catch you outside with someone else!).”

The victim immediately reported the incident to the Remedios Police Community Precinct (PCP).

The police went to the spa and asked Banal for his gun. 

The suspect voluntarily surrendered his firearm of unknown caliber loaded with 11 pieces of live ammunition.

The police said that the suspect also failed to present pertinent documents for his firearm.

The suspect is now detained at MPD Station 5 and will face charges for grave threat and violation of Republic Act (RA) 9262 (Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act of 2004) and RA 10591 (firearms law).
