FL: Bulacan a haven for arts and music, pillar of nation's democracy

First Lady Marie Louise "Liza" Araneta-Marcos has called the province of Bulacan as "more than a haven for arts and music" but also a "pillar of the nation's historic democracy."

In a video message to mark Bulacan's 446th founding anniversary on Thursday, August 15, the First Lady said: "To Governor Daniel Fernando, Vice Governor  Alex Castro and all the government officials present, please know that I'm celebrating your anniversary with all of you today. Enjoy the Singkaban festival, maraming salamat, remember sama-sama tayong babangong muli para sa Bagong Pilipinas." (thank you very much, remember, we will rise again through Bagong Pilipinas)

The video was played after Fernando introduced the First Lady as the guest of honor and speaker who could not attend but sent a special message for the commemoration.

Fernando urged all Bulakenyo to unite and share the colorful history of the province for the next generation. "Let us together face and solve the challenges so that we can achieve the freedom to live peacefully, safely, and abundantly," he said.

Meanwhile, House of Representatives Deputy Speaker Camille A. Villar, one of the event's guest speakers, hailed the province's historic Barasoain Church which served as the cradle of democracy because the First Philippine Republic was established in the church in the City of Malolos.

Villar also mentioned the Fertility Dancing at Obando town during the Sta Clara Fiesta in May, and the flocking of people to Bocaue for its quality fireworks in preparation for the New Year celebration. She said Bulacan is rich in history and culture and is admired countrywide and worldwide.

She also congratulated Bulacan for being the only province in Central Luzon that has been awarded the Seal of Good Local Governance by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) for seven consecutive years including the 2024 Presidential Recognition for Outstanding Development Partners.

Vice Governor Castro thanked the Bulakenyo youth for exhibiting the Bayanihan Spirit which is prevalent in the province.

"Join us in the fight against illegal drugs and human trafficking and other crimes that put our people at risk," he urged.
