Eastern Visayas records 7,145 dengue cases in 8 months
TACLOBAN CITY – The Department of Health-Eastern Visayas Center for Health Development (DOH-EVCHD) reported a significant surge in dengue cases in the region.

A total of 7,145 cases have been recorded, with 18 fatalities, from January to August 10, a staggering 187 percent increase compared to the same period last year with 2,487 cases and eight deaths.
A 221 percent increase in cases was reported in Morbidity Week 32, from 328 in Week 31 to 1,087.
Leyte province recorded the highest number of cases with 2,315, 32 percent of the total.
Majority of affected individuals were males, with ages one to 10 being the most vulnerable.
In response to the escalating situation, the DOH-EVCHD urged the public to intensify their efforts in implementing the 5S Strategy to prevent the spread of dengue.
Hospitals and health facilities were encouraged to ensure the availability of dengue fast lanes, sufficient healthcare providers, and essential dengue commodities and medicines to facilitate prompt and efficient service delivery.
Local government units (LGUs) and partner-agencies were also urged to actively participate in the fight against dengue by supporting anti-dengue activities, strengthening surveillance measures, and providing necessary resources to health facilities.
In Maasin City, Leyte, the local health board and the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council recommended declaring a state of calamity due to the serious threat of a dengue outbreak.
Mayor Nacional Mercado urged the public to intensify the campaign against dengue by cleaning their surroundings and destroying breeding sites of dengue-carrying mosquitoes.
