Scattered rains to persist in 6 Luzon areas due to ‘habagat’

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Thursday, Aug. 15 said the southwest monsoon (habagat) may continue to affect parts of northern Luzon in the next 24 hours.

Due to the prevalence of the habagat, cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms may persist in Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Batanes, and Babuyan Islands.

PAGASA warned of potential flash floods or landslides during moderate to heavy rains in these areas.

Meanwhile, partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated monsoon rain showers or thunderstorms may affect the Cordillera Administrative Region and the rest of Cagayan Valley.

PAGASA said similar conditions are expected in the rest of the country due to localized thunderstorms.

The public is also warned of possible flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms.

Weather Specialist Benison Estareja said PAGASA has not monitored any low pressure areas or tropical cyclones near or within the country’s area of responsibility as of Thursday.

He added that the country may remain cyclone-free until the weekend.
