The Samahang Manibela Mananakay at Nagkaisang Terminal ng Transportasyon (Manibela) and the Pagkakaisa ng mga Samahan ng Tsuper at Operator Nationwide (PISTON) transport groups staged a protest on Wednesday, August 14, to oppose the implementation of the Public Transport Modernization Program (PTMP), previously known as the Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program (PUVMP).

Manibela President Mar Valbuena led the staged protest at the boundary of Mabuhay Rotonda and España, Manila (Screen grab from MANIBELA transport group/MANILA BULLETIN)
The group aims to launch a 3-day protest against the PTMP.
At around 7 a.m., an estimated 400 rallyists had already occupied two lanes of Quezon Avenue, voicing their opposition to the PTMP.
The demonstrators are planning to march from Mabuhay Rotonda in Quezon City to Mendiola, Manila.
Members of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) were present in the area, standing by to ensure order during the protest.
On August 12, Piston announced their intention to hold a nationwide protest as part of their ongoing campaign against the PTMP, which they argue is detrimental to the livelihood of many transport operators and drivers.
The protest will include various forms of action, such as marches, rallies, caravans, and strikes along routes in every region across the country.
