Pasig LGU to deploy vehicles 'if necessary' amid 3-day transport strike
The local government of Pasig City announced that it will deploy “libreng sakay” vehicles for commuters who might be affected by the scheduled three-day transport strike from Wednesday, August 14, to Friday, August 16.
Vehicles will be deployed even as "mobility in Pasig City is not expected to be significantly affected by the scheduled three-day transport strike, according to information about the affected routes," the local government said.
“Based kasi sa information, ‘di masyadong affected yung areas of responsibility ng Pasig ayon sa reported route: Pasig-Tipas, mainly because may mga bibiyahe pa ring traditional and modern PUJs sa route na yun (Based on the information, the areas of responsibility in Pasig won’t be significantly affected according to the reported route: Pasig-Tipas, mainly because traditional and modern PUJs will still be operating along that route),” the Public Information Office (PIO) said.
The city's Traffic and Parking Management Office will monitor road conditions to determine the need for vehicle deployment especially during rush hours.
As of 9 a.m., transport groups Manibela and Pagkakaisa ng mga Samahan ng Tsuper at Operator Nationwide (Piston) started their protests near Mabuhay Rotonda in Quezon City to Mendiola in Manila.
The strike aims to protest President Marcos' decision to reject the Senate's call to suspend the implementation of the Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program (PUVMP).
The affected areas include Muñoz Market, Novaliches, Fairview, Commonwealth Avenue, Quezon Avenue, Balintawak, Cubao, and Projects 2 and 3 in Quezon City; Monumento, Bagong Silang, Camarin, and Almar in Caloocan; Parañaque; Marikina; Pasig City; Bicutan in Taguig; Manila; Alabang, Muntinlupa; and San Juan.
