Pangilinan, Aquino, Diokno appear with Hontiveros on video: 'Next year?! We'll be there 4 u'
Although there are no formal candidates yet, the opposition released a video teaser for the candidacy of human rights lawyer Chel Diokno and former senators Kiko Pangilinan and Bam Aquino.
Senator Risa Hontiveros, the lone candidate from former vice president Leni Robredo’s 2022 “Tropang Angat” senatorial slate who clinched a Senate seat, posted a video on her social media accounts on Tuesday, Aug. 13.
In the video, the senator, along with Pangilinan, Aquino, and Diokno, were seen dancing and goofing around a lounge chair reminiscent of the opening credits to the widely successful “Friends” series.
It also used the “Friends’” theme song, “I’ll Be There For You.”
“Samahan nyo ko next year ha (Join me next year ok)?,” she asked the trio in another video.
She captioned this with, “Promise ninyo ‘yan Sen. Kiko, Sen. Bam Aquino, at Atty. Chel sakin, ha (That’s your promise to me Sen. Kiko, Sen. Bam Aquino, and Atty. Chel).”
To which, Aquino, Pangilinan, and Diokno answered, “Next year?!”
Sharing Hontiveros’ post, Aquino captioned it with, “Let’s do this!!!”
“Ayos (Alright)!,” Pangilinan said of the video while Diokno posted: “Apat dapat (It should be four)!”
On Facebook, Aquino also shared a poster of the four of them using beach huts made of nipa as the background with the word “Pampubliko (For the public).”
The poster was similar to Filipino girl pop group Bini’s “Pantropiko” poster.
“‘Bawat araw mas sumasayaaaa.’ Ready na ba tayo sa islang pampubliko (Every day gets happier. Are we ready for the island public),” he wrote.
Election period for the midterm elections next year will begin on Jan. 12, 2025 and will end on June 11, 2025. The campaign period for senatorial candidates and partylist groups will be from Feb. 11, 2025 to May 10, 2025.
The filing of the Certificates of Candidacy (COC) for the midterm polls next year would be from Oct. 1 to 8.
