PAGASA sees slim chance of cyclone forming until weekend

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Wednesday, Aug. 14 said the country will likely remain free of tropical cyclones until at least the weekend.

In its 4 a.m. bulletin, PAGASA said the southwest monsoon, locally known as “habagat,” is expected to continue to be the dominant weather system.

In the next 24 hours, cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms may prevail over Ilocos Region, Batanes, and Babuyan Islands.

PAGASA warned of potential flash floods or landslides during moderate to heavy rains in these areas.

Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the habagat may also affect the Cordillera Administrative Region, Central Luzon, and the rest of Cagayan Valley.

Similar conditions are expected in the rest of the country due to localized thunderstorms.

The public is also warned of possible flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms.
