Missing teenage student found dead in La Carlota City


BACOLOD CITY – A 15-year-old Grade 10 student was found dead in a sugarcane plantation in Hacienda San Roque, Barangay Cubay, La Carlota City, Negros Occidental on Wednesday, August 14, two weeks after she was reported missing by her family here.

Police withheld the name of the victim, a Grade 10 student from Barangay Sum-ag.

Police Capt. Rosinie Cabuena, deputy chief of the La Carlota City Police Station, said that a hacienda worker discovered the victim’s decomposing body about 700 meters away from the main road while they were cutting grass at around 8:30 a.m.

The victim’s mother positively identified her through her clothes and shoes.

Cabuena said that according to her family, the victim was last seen alive in her school here around noon after attending a half-day class during the opening of classes on July 29. Her family reported her missing the following day when she failed to return home.

Police are conducting further investigation to determine how the victim ended up in La Carlota City and establish the motive.

Cabuena added that the victim’s body will be subjected to autopsy to determine the cause of her death.
