Sensitive siblings 'play' uploaded on TikTok; PNP urges parents to monitor online activities of kids

Imagine an eight-year old boy posting a sensitive video of his seven-year old sister on TikTok— just for fun, just for views.

This actually happened in Manila which prompted the Anti-Cybercrime Group of the Philippine National Police (PNP) to urged parents to monitor the social media activities of their children, particularly the minors.

PNP-ACG spokesperson Lt. Wallen Mae Arancillo said the video was already taken down and when their personnel went to the area to investigate, they found out that the children were just playing and had no idea of the sensitivity of what they did.

“When our operatives talked to the children, they said they were just playing using a cellphone and they had no idea that what they did was wrong,” said Arancillo.

The video was uploaded by the eight-year old boy on his Tiktok account.

Arancillo said the information came from Tiktok itself and sent it to the cyber tip line of the Department of Justice.

She explained that the incident might have been a result of too much exposure on social media and other online activities.

“In these cases, parental guidance is really needed, especially those involving minors. If possible, they have to monitor the online activities of their children,” said Arancillo.

She said mobile phones, gadgets and social media have special features that monitor and restrict online activity access.

Currently, Arancillo said they are investigating to determine if the parents of the children could be held liable, adding that they are also monitoring other social media platforms to know if the same video was shared.
