EJ Obiena returns to training after his heartbreaking campaign in the 2024 Paris Olympics where he narrowly missed the podium and landed at fourth place.

The 28-year-old Obiena cleared the 5.90-meter bar but lost via countback to Greece’s Emmanouil Karalis, with the latter taking the bronze, Sam Kendricks with silver (5.95m), and Armand Duplantis the Olympic champion in record fashion after an extraordinary height of 6.25m.
The result, however, only ignited the desire for the Filipino athletics star to further improve his skill and earn another shot at the 2028 Los Angeles Games.
“The measure of a man or woman is NOT a singular event—like the Olympics—but a cumulative or collective measure over time. I finished 4th in Paris, close but not good enough. I am not measured by this,” Obiena wrote in a Facebook post.
“I am measured by my career. I commit to everyone now, I am back in training, I am back in the game, and I am going to attack the rest of the season and make you proud," he continued.
The pride of Tondo expressed his gratitude to the Filipino fans who continue to support him.
“First, I am filled with gratitude for the support of all of you, and to be loved at times like this, by the country that raised me. I am indeed blessed!! Thank you!,” he added.
Just like his domination in the European circuit with multiple medals in his war chest, Obiena vows to be back and win it all again.
“You are going to see more from me, and see the Philippine Flag raised and raised on a global stage. Let’s get on with it!”
