'Habagat' to bring rain showers to parts of Luzon, Visayas
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Tuesday, Aug. 13 said the southwest monsoon, locally known as “habagat,” is expected to continue to influence the weather conditions across Luzon and the western parts of Visayas.
In the next 24 hours, the habagat may continue to bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms to Ilocos Region, Zambales, Batanes, and Babuyan Islands.
PAGASA warned of potential flash floods or landslides during moderate to heavy rains in these areas.
Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the habagat may also affect Metro Manila, the rest of Luzon, Western Visayas, and Negros Island Region.
Similar conditions are expected in the rest of the country due to localized thunderstorms.
The public is also warned of possible flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms.
Meanwhile, Weather Specialist Rhea Torres said the tropical storm, internationally named "Ampil," is anticipated to remain outside the Philippine area of responsibility as it is expected to move away from the country.
She added that the storm is not expected to directly affect any part of the Philippines.
