The Green Archers lifted the trophy for the Philippines with a 101-86 rout of Korean University on Monday night, Aug. 12, to become the second Filipino collegiate squad to secure the title two years after the Ateneo Blue Eagles accomplished the feat.
Kevin Quiambao was named Most Valuable Player of the three-day tournament in Tokyo, Japan following a display of sustained dominance in all game days.
The Topex Robinson-coached La Salle is coming off similar success in its local preseason exploits at the heels of Quiambao’s Gilas Pilipinas stint in the 2024 FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament.
With the anticipated men’s centerpiece just right around the corner, the Green Archers swept the knockout phase with a masterful 117-71 rout of Indonesia’s Perbanas Institute before turning back reigning champion Chinese Taipei’s National Chengchi University in overtime, 77-73.
But there was no surprise to that buildup as La Salle carried with them the PBA D-League and PinoyLiga titles along with a runner-up finish in the Filoil EcoOil Tournament which allowed for an impressive showing in their 39th Kadayawan Festival showdown against PBA teams in Davao before heading to Japan.
