Police Lt. Col. Mark Anthony Darroca, Silay police chief, said the victim was flagged down by the suspects, who were walking towards the highway from a river, on his way to work onboard a tricycle at around 2:30 a.m.
The victim allowed them to ride his tricycle but one of the suspects tried to rob him of his cellular phone.
Lanosnia resisted and one of the suspects, a 17-year-old boy, stabbed him in the chest.
The victim managed to run and seek help from his sibling who was living nearby. He was taken to a hospital where he was declared dead.
The 17-year-old boy and his two companions – his 17-year-old girlfriend and her 14-year-old brother – hid in a sugarcane field.
The two siblings were arrested by the police after coming out of the sugarcane field while the 17-year-old boy was apprehended two hours later in the area.
Police are awaiting a discernment order from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to enable them to file homicide charges against the teenage couple.
