Ospital ng Maynila braces for possible leptospirosis spike

The Ospital ng Maynila Medical Center (OMMC) has geared up for the possible rise in leptospirosis cases this rainy season.
During the Leptospirosis Crisis Management Conference, OMMC Head Dr. Aileen Lacsamana urged the division chiefs to prepare the hospital's resources and bed-capacity to cater to all the affected patients.
“As public healthcare workers, we must be able to give the highest quality healthcare service to the public to the best of our capacity,” Dr. Lacsamana said.
“The people need us, and we should be there to serve them regardless of their status in life, dahil sa Maynila, walang maiiwan,” she added.
Based on data from the OMMC's Department of Internal Medicine, the hospital has attended to about 37 leptospirosis patients since the onslaught of Typhoon Carina.
Most of the patients were from the fifth district of the City of Manila, the same area where OMMC is located.
"Nevertheless, majority of the cases were only mild condition," it added.
Lacsamana urged all medical staff to remain focused and execute all learnings they have acquired in order to provide to the public the best quality hospital service.
"The possible leptospirosis surge is a perfect exercise for our learnings as a team and it mirrors the synchronicity and service delivery in OMMC," Dr. Lacsamana said.
