Motorcycle mechanic gunned down while sleeping

BACOLOD CITY – A motorcycle mechanic was gunned down inside his house in Barangay Patun-an, Calatrava, Negros Occidental around midnight on Monday, August 12.

The victim was identified as 32-year-old Joshua Libre.

Police Major Wilfredo Benoman Jr., Calatrava police chief, said the victim was sleeping when an unidentified person entered and shot him.

The victim sustained a bullet wound in the chest and was declared dead in a hospital.

Benoman said the victim’s live-in partner, who was sleeping beside him, and his minor stepdaughter were awakened by the gunshot. However, they failed to recognize the perpetrator.

The victim’s live-in partner and stepdaughter were unharmed.

Recovered from the crime scene were a fired cartridge and a slug of a .45 caliber firearm.

Police are looking into grudges as a possible motive in the incident.
