The Manila Bulletin Philippine Men's Masters Team capped a stellar showing in the 2024 Asian Underwater Hockey Cup with a thrilling 4-2 victory over the United Arab Emirates to cop the bronze medal in Singapore on Sunday, Aug. 11.

The team, headed by captain Carlos Q. de Guzman and vice captain Enrique Raymond I. Yap, just placed behind powerhouses China and Singapore, which bagged the gold and silver medals, respectively.
Composed of Allan Caroche, Emmanuel Floresca, Eduardo Ricardo Ochoa, Victor Fernando Burgos, Salvador Capili, Bon Nelson ibulan, Joel Beloy, Benson Martinez, Raymund John Musa, and Herbert Baylon and under the guidance of head coach Leonard Samonte, the Filipinos asserted their mastery over the UAE which it defeated 6-1 in their first meeting before settling for a 3-3 draw in their rematch.
The win also came as a huge bounce back for the Manila Bulletin PH team after narrowly missing out on the silver medal following a pulsating 3-2 overtime loss to Singapore in the semifinals early in the day.
“We're incredibly proud of your achievement and the way you've represented the Philippines on the international stage. This is a moment to celebrate not just the medal but the spirit of camaraderie and sportsmanship that defines the team,” said the Philippine Underwater Hockey Confederation.
Meanwhile, the Philippine teams in the elite men and women division both failed to land into the podium after finishing fourth.
