Batangas under state of calamity due to ASF

BATANGAS CITY – The province of Batangas was placed under a state of calamity due to African Swine Fever (ASF).

A resolution was approved on Monday, August 12, during the 33rd regular session of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan with Vice Gov. Mark Leviste as presiding officer.

The Provincial Board had earlier lifted a state of calamity declaration due to the effects of the enhanced southwest monsoon or “habagat” and typhoon “Carina” upon the recommendation of Gov. Hermilando Mandanas, chairman of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council.

On Wednesday, August 7, the town of Lobo, Batangas was also placed under a state of calamity because of ASF.

The Sangguniang Bayan or municipal council approved a resolution declaring the measure that was revealed in a meeting with over 500 hog raisers.

Seventeen out of 26 barangays have reported cases of ASF in hog farms.

About 8,000 pigs have been slaughtered and buried to prevent the further spread of ASF.

Hog raisers have sought the help of the government due to losses amounting to P103 million.
