Woman killed, 6 relatives injured in collision

BACOLOD CITY – A 37-year-old woman was killed and six others, including her father, were injured in a collision in Barangay Caduha-an, Cadiz City, Negros Occidental on Saturday, August 10.

Police identified the fatality as Jenelyn Amante, 37, of Barangay Tinampa-an, Cadiz City.

Injured were her 63-year-old father and relatives aged seven, 10, 12, and 16, and another minor.

Police Lt. Col. John Joel Batusbatusan, Cadiz police chief, said that a sedan driven by Amante was on its way to this city when it reportedly encroached the opposite lane and hit the left side of a truck.

Amante was declared dead in a hospital. Her companions sustained minor injuries.

Batusbatusan said the victims’ family and the truck owner have met for a possible settlement.

He said the 39-year-old truck driver will be released from police custody if no charges will be filed against him within the reglementary period.
