Rain showers, thunderstorms to persist in Luzon, western Visayas due to 'habagat'
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Sunday, Aug. 11 said the southwest monsoon, locally known as “habagat,” is affecting Luzon and the western parts of Visayas and may continue to bring rain showers and thunderstorms to these areas.
In its 4 a.m. bulletin, PAGASA said the habagat may bring scattered rains and thunderstorms to Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Zambales, Bataan, Occidental Mindoro, and Palawan.
PAGASA warned of potential flash floods or landslides during moderate to heavy rains in these areas.
Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the habagat may also affect Metro Manila, the rest of Luzon, Western Visayas, and Negros Island Region.
Similar conditions are expected in the rest of the country due to localized thunderstorms.
The public is also warned of possible flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms.
