The Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) has committed to construct more mass housing projects in Mindanao as part of the efforts to address the 6.5 million backlog in housing.
In Zamboanga City for instance, DHSUD Secretary Jose Rizalino Acuzar said at least 25,000 families would be provided with affordable houses once the project is completed.
“We have several good projects in Mindanao in compliance with the order of President Marcos to build more housing units in the area,” said Acuzar.
On Saturday, Aug. 10, Acuzar led the groundbreaking ceremony of the housing projects in Zamboanga City and Surigao del Norte.
The housing projects in Zamboanga City are in Barangay Salaan and Barangay Layuhan while another mass housing project will soon start the construction in Barangay Osmena in Siargao--the first mass housing project in Caraga Region.
On Aug. 9, the DHSUD team also checked the housing project for Badjaos in Barangay Kasanyangan.
