Green Archers cruise past Indonesian foe in 2024 World University Basketball Series opener

Less than a month before the UAAP Season 87 men’s basketball kicks off, the reigning champions have seemingly taken an even dominant form as the Green Archers now head into the semifinal against the winner between WUBS champion National Chengchi University from Chinese Taipei or host Nippon Sports Science University on Sunday.

La Salle made the most of its preseason tournaments with impressive success even against professional club teams in PBA.

And Gilas Pilipinas forward Kevin Quiambao, who was two wins away from qualifying to the 2024 Paris Olympics with the national team in the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament (OQT) in Latvia just last month, was at the forefront of it all as he caught fire early after coming down with a 30-point opening quarter all on his own to seize control from the onset.

Despite losing a significant chunk of its championship lineup to graduation at the conclusion of the past season, head coach Topex Robinson’s holdovers and debuting talents are shaping up to be just as impressive in the beatdown.

La Salle greeted the halftime with a 30-point advantage that stretched to 49 points at some point nearing the endgame to secure the victory.

With things looking bright for the Green Archers, the Taft based squad now has a chance to accomplish what Ateneo has done in the inaugural tournament in 2022 that saw the Blue Eagles emerge as champions under the guidance of Tab Baldwin.

The three-day tournament’s championship game is set to take place on Monday, Aug. 12, while Season 87 begins on Sept. 7.
