Police Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil visited the wake of Police Staff Sgt. Orvin Seth Felicio at the Sacred Heart Chapel in Barangay Cogon Ramos here where he assured that the PNP will extend assistance to the policeman's family.
“There is a set of benefits due to the family aside from the assistance that will be given by Police Regional Office-Central Visayas (PRO-7) and the PNP and part of this is to make sure that the children of Staff Sgt. Felicio will be assisted for their studies,” Police Lt. Col. Gerard Ace Pelare, spokesperson for PRO-7 chief Police Brig. Gen. Anthony Aberin, said.
Marbil turned over personal assistance to the victim's wife and parents and awarded a posthumous award to the fallen policeman.
Felicio was supposed to pick up his wife on Saturday night, July 27, when he chanced upon a group of teenagers being apprehended by personnel of the Barangay Police Security Office for violating a curfew ordinance.
One of the teenagers ran, prompting Felicio to chase him. During the chase, the boy shot the victim in the head with a. 38 caliber revolver.
The boy surrendered to his teacher who turned him over to the police.
Because of the incident, Marbil reminded unit commanders to come up with security measures that will ensure the safety of their personnel during operations or even when off-duty.
"The instruction of the chief PNP has always been clear. He is leaning on making sure that the morale and welfare of our personnel are taken care of. That has always been his priority,” Pelare said.
Murder charges have been filed against the suspect as well as his companions who escaped.
Felicio will be interred on Saturday, August 3.
