President Marcos urged Filipinos to further love the Philippine national language this language month.

In a statement, Marcos underscored the Filipino language's importance in the nation’s goal to attain unity and in fostering the Filipino identity.
“Ang okasyong ito ay nagsisilbing mahalagang paalala sa atin na mahalin ang wikang Filipino nang bukal sa ating puso at nanggagaling sa kamalayan na ang mga wikang minana ay nagtatanghal ng ating kahanga-hangang pagkakakilanlan bilang isang lipi, (This occasion serves as a reminder to love the Filipino language with all our hearts and with the awareness that the language we inherited shows our admirable identity as a race)," Marcos said in his message on Thursday, August 1.
The President also stated that the month-long celebration of the Filipino language also calls upon the citizenry to further love and enrich the national language.
“Subalit ang Buwan ng Wikang Pambansa ay hindi lamang isang paalala; ito ay isa ring paanyaya na patuloy nating mahalin at pagyamanin ang ating mga wika (But the National Language Month is not only a reminder; it is also an invitation to continue loving and enriching our language," he said.
"Hitik ang ating panitikan ng mga obrang tiyak na magpapalalim ng ating pag-ibig sa bayan at makapanghihikayat sa bagong henerasyon na tangkilikin din ang sariling atin (Filipino literature is rich with pieces that deepen our love for our nation and would encourage the new generation to patronize our own)," Marcos further stated.
The Chief Executive also urged Filipinos to take these literary pieces to heart and mind to foster greater collaboration among them for a progressive, free, and unified country.
As the nation honors this month-long celebration with the theme “Filipino: Wikang Magpapalaya” the President said Presidential Proclamation No. 1041 issued in 1997, is a cornerstone in the strengthening of our unity and sense of self and the reason why we celebrate these qualities.
Former president Fidel V. Ramos signed Proclamation No. 1041 on July 15, 1997, making August “Buwan ng Wikang Pambansa,” or National Language Month.
