As expected, former Olympian MJ Perez led the scoring rally while Gel Cayuna and Jacqueline Acuña provided stability as the HD Spikers kept their record pristine and improved to 4-0 in Pool B.

Perez unloaded 20 points off 16 kills, three blocks and one ace while Acuña added eight points to outshine Brooke Van Sickle, who unleashed a conference-high 28 points in a losing effort for Petro Gazz.

The Angels absorbed their third loss in four outings.

Despite being close to sweeping their bracket, Cignal coach Shaq Delos Santos stressed there’s no room for complacency.

“Grabe yung naging effort talaga nitong team na to kasi sa three days naming preparation, good thing na lumabas talaga yung kung paano kami nagkaroon ng game plan,” said Delos Santos.

“For us hindi pa ‘to enough na okay na okay kami, kasi pahirap na ng pahirap yung competition,” he added.

Leaning on a slim 12-11 edge, Cignal took advantage of Petro Gazz’s erratic plays to take the opening set and kept that momentum in the second.

The HD Spikers almost lost their touch in the third after the Angels grabbed the 16-14 upperhand courtesy of Myla Pablo.

But it turned out to be Petro Gazz’s last stand as Glaudine Troncoso came out of nowhere and scored her only three points in the pivotal stretch to help Cignal regain its composure.
