In a surprising move especially with the new PBA season just around the corner, Converge and Aldin Ayo have decided to part ways, the FiberXers announced on Thursday, Aug. 1.

Ayo, along with his lead assistant McJour Luib, will be no longer on the team’s bench beginning the PBA Governors’ Cup which kicks off on Aug. 18, with long time deputy Franco Atienza serving as the team's acting head coach.
“The Converge FiberXers would like to wish Coach Aldin Ayo and 1st Assistant Coach McJour Luib all the best in their next journey as they bid farewell to the team ahead of the opening of the 49th Season of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA),” said the FiberXers in a statement.
While the announcement certainly came as a shock, Converge team manager Jacob Lao insisted that the split was a mutual decision between the two camps.
"It was a mutually agreed decision for both parties to part ways. We are thankful for their dedicated service to the team for almost two years," said Lao.
Ayo joined Converge in 2022, taking the helm from Jeff Cariaso who was the head coach when Converge took over the franchise of the now defunct Alaska Aces.
Under his leadership, the FiberXers made it to two quarterfinals appearances in Season 47 before finishing at the bottom of the standings in the two conferences last season.
Ayo was still with the team when it picked Justine Baltazar as the top overall pick in the draft and called the shots for the FiberXers when they took part in the Kadayawan Invitational tournament in Davao last week.
Converge finished last in the four-team pocket tournament that also included losses to fellow PBA teams Rain or Shine and Phoenix and UAAP champion team La Salle.
