Members of the Parañaque City police arrested one of the two suspects involved in the shooting of a 28-year-old man in just four hours after the incident during the conduct of a hot pursuit operation on Sunday, July 7.
The Southern Police District (SPD) said the arrested suspect was identified as alias Rocky. He was arrested at around 11:00 a.m. along Quirino Avenue, San Dionisio, Parañaque City.
Col. Melvin Montante, Parañaque city police chief, said they are still conducting backtracking and manhunt operations for the arrest of the remaining suspect identified as Muhannad Manguda Bangen.
Reports showed that the victim, identified as alias Ronald, went to a store near his residence at around 6:00 a.m. to cash-in some money when the two riding-in-tandem suspects shot the victim repeatedly on the different parts of his body. The victim died on the spot.
A witness who was sorting recyclable materials at the crime scene told the police that the suspects immediately fled on board their Yamaha NMAX motorcycle going to direction of Las Piñas after the incident.
The police recovered from the arrested suspect a .38 caliber revolver with three live ammunitions and one empty shell. He was brought to the SPD Forensic Unit for ballistic examination.
Montante said further investigation disclosed that the motive for the killing could be illegal drugs.
He said charges for murder and illegal possession of firearm were filed against the arrested suspect.
The police also filed a murder case against Bangen who remains at-large.
