The Ilocos Sur Police Provincial Forensic Unit confirmed that the white crystalline substance in an aqua-blue plastic pack surrendered in San Esteban, Ilocos Sur on Sunday, July 7, is shabu.

The contraband weighed 998.42 grams and valued at P6,789,256. It was recovered  by a fisherman from Barangay Apatot, San Esteban 18 nautical miles west of the WPS.

A fisherman from Burgos, Ilocos Norte also found on Monday, July 8, a light blue plastic pack with the markings “Cai Yu Lin” and red Chinese characters 12 nautical miles west of Barangay Bobon, Burgos.

Police and the Philippine Coast Guard retrieved the pack for proper disposition.

Police Brig. Gen. Lou F. Evangelista, PRO-1 director, appealed  to coastal communities to sightings of similar packs.

“Huwag nating hayaan na makapasok ang anumang uri ng iligal na droga dito sa ating minamahal na rehiyon. Tulong-tulong tayo para sa kaligtasan ng isa’t-isa at para sa kinabukasan ng ating mga anak (Don’t let illegal drugs enter our region. Let us help each other safeguard the future of our children),” he said.
