PAGASA: Rain showers to continue across parts of the country due to easterly winds
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Tuesday, July 9, that the warm winds from the Pacific Ocean, known as easterlies, may continue to bring rain showers across parts of the country in the next 24 hours.
Residents of Palawan and Visayas have been warned of potential flash floods or landslides due to occasionally moderate to heavy rains and thunderstorms brought by the easterlies.
The same weather system may also cause partly cloudy to cloudy conditions with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms over Bicol Region, Quezon, Aurora, Isabela, and Cagayan.
Meanwhile, the rest of the country can expect partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers due to localized thunderstorms.
PAGASA also warned the public about severe thunderstorms that could lead to flash floods or landslides.
According to Weather Specialist Rhea Torres, PAGASA has not monitored any tropical cyclone or low pressure area near or within the country’s area of responsibility as of Tuesday.
However, she said the southwest monsoon, locally known as “habagat,” may re-strengthen in the coming days and become the dominant weather system in the country.
Palawan and the western parts of Mindanao are likely to be initially affected by monsoon rains, she added.
