SAGIP Party-list Rep. Rodante Marcoleta has expressed equal parts bewilderment and appreciation for his inclusion in the list of leading senatorial bets for the upcoming 2025 midterm elections, as shown in a survey.
Based on a survey conducted by the Publishers Association of the Philippines, Inc. (PAPI) for the first quarter of 2024, Marcoleta ranked second in the top 12 choices for potential senatorial candidates.
“Nakakataba naman ng puso ‘yun…kung napipisil nila tayo (That's heart-warming if the people prefer me),” Marcoleta said in a press conference on Tuesday, July 9.
“Hindi ko po alam kung ano po ang nakain nila bakit po tayo napisil pero malaking bagay po ‘yun. Karangalan po ng inyong lingkod ang mapili po,” he added.
(I don't know what they ate to cause them to prefer me but that's a big deal. It is my honor to be chosen.)
PAPI administered the survey among various farmers’ groups.
Marcoleta ranked second with a rating of 58.2 percent.
The survey had 1,500 farmers as the respondents, coming from various areas across Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.
Marcoleta, a former House deputy speaker, was originally slated to run for senator in the May 9, 2022 elections under the UniTeam banner.
However, he withdrew from the race 12 days prior to the elections, as he cited “poor showing” in the pre-election surveys.
