Duterte tells Palaro 2024 participants: Your participation is your victory

The annual Palarong Pambansa (National Games), a tradition upheld by the Department of Education (DepEd), took center stage once again this year as it formally opened on Tuesday, July 9, in Cebu City.

“Kinikilala natin ang taunang Palarong Pambansa bilang tradisyon ng Department of Education na may malalim at makabuluhang papel sa paglinang ng ating mga mag-aaral at paghahanda para sa mas malalaking kompetisyon sa buhay (We recognize the annual Palarong Pambansa as a tradition of the Department of Education that plays a deep and significant role in the development of our students and in preparing them for greater competitions in life),” Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Duterte said in her message.

As she extended her aspirations for the success of the event's objectives, Duterte stressed how the Palaro has marked a significant event in the development and preparation of Filipino students for larger competitions in life.

“Sa ating mga atleta, dito ay hindi kayo uuwing talo—dahil ang inyong partisipasyon sa ating mga kompetisyon ay isa nang tagumpay para sa bawat isa sa inyo (To our athletes, here you will not go home defeated—because your participation in our competitions is already a success for each of you),” Duterte said.

“Baunin sana ninyo ang mga leksyon ng pakikipagkaibigan, disiplina, pagpupursige, at katatagan para sa katuparan ng inyong mga pangarap (May you carry with you the lessons of friendship, discipline, perseverance, and resilience in the pursuit of your dreams),” she added.

The Palarong Pambansa 2024, Duterte said, stands as a testament to the steadfast commitment and dedication of the DepEd to Filipino students.

“Kasabay ng pagbubukas ng Palarong Pambasa 2024 sa Cebu City ngayong araw ay ang aking dasal at hangarin para sa tagumpay ng ating mga layunin na maisulong ang akma, napapanahon, at dekalidad na edukasyon para sa mga kabataang Pilipino (With the opening of the Palarong Pambansa 2024 in Cebu City today, my prayer and desire for the success of our goals to promote appropriate, timely, and quality education for Filipino youth),” she added.

Meanwhile, Duterte also acknowledged the various sectors that collaborated with DepEd to bring this event to fruition this year.

“Maraming salamat din sa lahat ng mga guro, coaches, technical staff, mga magulang, at lahat na bahagi ng Palarong Pambansa 2024—lalo na sa Cebu City, at sa lahat ng mga lokal na pamahalaan sa isla ng Cebu at sa buong bansa (Many thanks also to all the teachers, coaches, technical staff, parents, and everyone who is part of the Palarong Pambansa 2024—especially in Cebu City, and to all the local governments on the island of Cebu and throughout the country),” she said.
